In this time lapse I’ll be showing the painting process of a little boy at a Simchas Torah event.
As I painted this piece, vivid memories of going to shul on simchas Torah swam around in my head.
I remember the “pekelah” (package) of sweets the Rabbi would hand out to the kids.
I remember men throwing their children into the air at the words “moshe emes v’torahso emes”. I was also thrown and caught and the feeling of flying in the air remains with me.
I remember trying to kiss the Torah scrolls as the men danced around the bima (dais).
Memories like these are what made Judaism special to me as a kid.
Before I valued my relationship with G-d I valued Judaism. Before I learnt anything from a Bible I learnt to love my religion.
Memories like these are what carried the traditions down from generation to generation. It is a huge part of why there are practicing Jews till today.
